Aware of the challenges of an abandoned fort: visual impacts, degradation, erosion, alteration to the original topography, this project aims to transform the site to a safe, environmentally stable condition compatible with adjoining lands, and to explore alternative ways to approach the existing views. Since the land is cut away to form a pit, possible strategies such as underground, cut and fill, terracing could be applied to the site. Thus, this project will also focus on architecture’s relationship to topography: above ground, on the ground, and below ground. The project is derived from the collective memory of the site, recollecting forgotten memories from the sites past to inform a new narrative through re-interpretation and adaptation.
